About The Department

In pursuing the preservation of Kurdish language and literature as a national heritage due to the richness its underlying concepts, recurring motifs, prominent works and distinguished figures, and also further to the 15th principle of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in which the teaching of other Iranian languages has been explicitly granted, the department of Kurdish language and literature was established at the University of Kurdistan in Sanandaj, as the first of its type in the Iranian academic society. Moreover, the fundamental affinity between Kurdish and Persian languages in terms of their linguistic structure and literary legacy, which can pave the way for systematic studies on both languages, has lent empirical support to the formal establishment of this department at UOK.

Seeking to improve the extent of its educational capacities, the department of Kurdish language and literature has recently designed its Masters program and is hoping to admit the first round of postgraduate students of Kurdish language and literature in the near future.
